Chapter Two - “DEPARTURE FROM VIEW”
I was sitting in the lounge room having a cup of green tea and I thought to myself ironically, “I can’t sweat this. This is the most make-shift shit I’ve ever thought of.” I thought, “The take as I see it is the clue that I gained from my writing, or so I’ll say to myself. A weary traveller like that must’ve been clearly granted back access to the crossroad, else the criminals would all get through and back alley to Melbourne from elsewhere.”
Eve, they say, is an evangelist angel and they say that she is a true advocate of the system of the grail that gives in and comes over a sweeping wall of rain, avenging many of those people in the call. “Fuck,” I said. I didn’t want someone like Eve coming down on my head just for having a fancy for a different man again. “Martin, get the loss over here and I’ll tell you what’s happening next of all, you arse.” I stand there all the time, just waiting, wishing that I were somewhere else. Still, he sleeps on the mattress in the second room, always averting to my every whim.
He came over to me from the bedroom along the hallway and said, “Yes?” He had been sitting there with his photographs again, in the same room with the memories of a family that he had lost. He sat there with a glass of water for more than half an hour every night just depicting to himself that he had saved her, his wife, whereas loss was more than half an hour’s grief alone in that room. I usually just left him there, writing in my books, or else watching him and meandering around in my own life numbing boat whilst the night time crept on forwards. “In time,” I thought, “I will be somewhere else.” That night coming was more than I’d ever felt before.
